About the Metaphysical Film School
What we're about
This site is designed for Actors, Writers, Directors and anyone who enjoys movies and wants to go more deeply into the symbolic and esoteric aspects of the cinema arts. This is a self-study course and questions will be asked for further exploration at the ends of each section. The main point is not to just learn some new concepts and memorize them, but to take these concepts and use them as tools to discover and recognize symbolic patterns in the new films you watch, the scripts you write and in the characters you bring to life.
Objectives
• To help film professionals and movie enthusiasts reach a deeper understanding of some of the more hidden processes involved in films and storytelling.
• To help you cultivate "symbolic sight" and the perception needed to see underlying patterns that can open up new doors in your writing or performance...or see a familiar movie in an entierly new light.
• To provide analyses of several Hollywood movies - classic and contemporary; critically acclaimed and popular - that highlight clear examples of film theory and the storytelling aspects presented here.
Who we are
The Metaphysical Film School is a project by Chris Sheridan, M.A.
"I have 20 years experience in the film industry, have taught film at the college level, and made several films. With a graduate degree in transformational psychology, I have both practical film experience and metaphysical training, which together form the basis for the material in these pages."
